What's a Blog?

According to Wikipedia:

A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of website where entries are made (such as in a journal or diary), displayed in reverse chronological order.
Blogs often provide commentary or news and information on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries.1

In the Polar Science Project we are going to use Blogs as a tool for "thinking out loud". This is a space for users to think through their exeriences and share comments, questions and opinions with other Polar Science users. This type of reflective, purposeful dialogue can help you better understand the topics you are writing about.

The scientists on the the Polar Science Ice Team and the Polar Science Lab Team will be using the Blogs to share data from Antarctica and experiment observations and results from the lab in Toronto. This is a great opportunity to see how research is conducted. Maybe you will get the chance to see discoveries made in real-time!!

The Blogs are one more communication tool to help you share your ideas with the larger Polar Science community. They are not "chat" spaces; they are sharing spaces.

Only registered users can post Blog articles, but anyone with Internet access can read the Blogs. That means you can be sharing what you are learning with many people around the world!
