This guide is a special, one-time initiative developed as part of the 2000 - 2002 "Engineers are Everyday Heroes" educational program. The campaign is spearheaded by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the organization that licenses Ontario's 63,000 professional engineers and sets standards for and regulates the practice of professional engineering in the province. PEO has a statutory mandate under the Professional Engineers Act to protect the public interest where engineering is concerned. You can identify a professional engineer by the short form "P.Eng." after their name. They apply the discoveries of science to design and develop processes to make sophisticated materials, products and structures that solve everyday problems, protect us from harm and improve our quality of life.
