Laurie's first communication was to relay a minor disappointment. He called by satellite phone from the airport at Nuuq to say the equipment, including the sled was delayed in transit and had only just arrived. The original plan had been to start out from Isertoq across the glacier on the 17th. The starting date has been pushed back to Wednesday, May 19, 1999.
In spite of the frustration caused by the delay, Laurie reported that the team members were all in good spirits. The temperature in Nuuq was fairly mild at -3 degrees Celsius with light winds.
The team will fly by helicopter with all their gear to Angmassalik and then travel by dog sled to the edge of the glacier at Isertoq to begin the expedition.
