Atmospheric conditions were very poor when Laurie called and the transmission was short and sometimes garbled. Laurie reported that they only covered about 10 kms. today which was really quite good in view of the weather conditions. The team gained another 4500 feet in altitude; in other words they had another day of climbing uphill.
It was snowing heavily all day, so much so that every stride was taken in total whiteout conditions. The team members could see nothing and travelled only by the aid of their compasses. The heavy snow made the skiing hard especially since the team members are still pulling very heavy loads.
The team members are tired but well. Since they have almost a month more on this trek, they are listening to their bodies and not pushing harder than they should.
