Diane's note: good, clear transmission today.

When we made camp last night it was flat calm and the tent was totally silent. It was eerie. We woke in the night to rising wind. It was a force 7 to force 8 blizzard. There was no way we could carry on today; so we stayed in camp. We spent the day chatting, eating, writing journals and taking care of our bodies. We all have pretty bad blisters. Pulling heavy loads in poor conditions like we've experienced has played havoc with our heels. One of mine is really raw and ugly. We 're hoping this island will give us a break soon; we really have to start making tracks. We have lots of food and fuel; that's not our worry, but we really want to make some distance.

End of transmission
