Diane's note: crystal clear transmission. Since Laurie was en route when he called he didn't have camp co-ordinates.
Sometimes you hear people talking about conquering mountains and defying the oceans and things like that. Well, we don't believe in that. We believe you have to work with nature. We had another enormous blowout last night and we tried to get up and get going this morning. We actually packed but realized we were just asking for trouble. We got back in the tent. We rested most of the day. By afternoon it began to clear up and by 4:30 we were on our way.
We're travelling through the night and it's absolutely glorious. I'm actually calling you from the trail now. The sun is just to our north. It's now about 9:00 o'clock in the evening.
We're gradually working our way up to the Arctic circle. It's very cold. We keep having to stop to put on extra layers. The surface is good.
We're just pushing and pushing to take advantage of every lull in the weather we can get. The weather has really been working against us right from the beginning, but here we've got a little break and even though it means making a forced march through the night, that's what we're doing.
All's well. We're pushing on.
